‘Phule’ Movie: An Overview about the rising political outcry & discontent

The upcoming period movie “Phule” has been clouded by controversies and resistance.

‘Phule’ is a period drama movie which is based on the true story of a pioneering husband Jyotirao Phule and his wife Savitribai Phule who fought against the inequality and discrimination that were practiced in the Indian society during the 19 century. Initially, the release date of this movie had been slated on 11 April 2025 but the unforeseen yet a little expected resistance against this movie’s storyline forced the team to reconsider and they even changed it.

What is the Controversy?

You might be thinking what is there to argue? Well some of the Brahmin community in the country raised their voices and even argued that this movie is showcasing their community in a negative shade and they claim that such portrayal could lead to a societal discord. For which the people who defended the movie makers expressed their support via social media posts and videos. Further, the controversy led the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) to make certain corrections and the movie makers were forced to edit and modify some of the scenes that had references of specific castes, Manu & Peshwa regime.

So, the eleventh hour editing has made them reschedule their release date to 25th April 2025.
