Imagine making your Indian Premier League Debut at the age of 14, and facing a seasoned bowler. Must be a nervous ball to face right?! But not for the fearless 14 year old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hit it for a massive Six and announced his entry into the biggest cricketing league of all time.

Who is Vaibhav Sooryavanshi? 

Hailing from Bihar, India Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is a cricketing prodigy and has the killer ability to be an explosive freestyle batsman who can also spin the ball when needed. The focus has always been on the young man as Rajasthan Royals bought him in the auction for 1.1 crores and from getting an IPL contract at the age of 13. His father is said to be a farmer and a freelance journalist, as reported by the Indian Media. 

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi – Career So Far

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his domestic debut at 12 in रणजी ट्रॉफी and was selected to play for India U-19 to play against Australia, where he scored a 58 ball century – an impressive feat as he joined the lone record setter England’s Moeen Ali who set the fastest in 2005. 

Apart from the focus on his young age, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made certain that the talk was not just about his age as he announced his own presence by an audacious six, hitting the seasoned IPL bowler Shardul Thakur on his first ball! The shot ignited chants and hope across the stadium as Sooryavanshi continued his form as he picked Avesh Khan for another six, clearing his front leg. 

Even though RR lost the game, Sooryavanshi’s 34 runs off 20 deliveries and a 85 run partnership between Jaiswal was monumental in bringing the heat to the match.

Experts and Celebrity Reactions

The young prodigy was appreciated and lauded by many including cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar saying, “Vaibhav Suryavanshi looked confident against bowlers who have been bowling for years.” 

Michael Vaughn took it to his X page, posting, “This is Incredible” while high praise from former Indian Cricketer Suresh Raina who predicted the youngster by saying, “He will rule cricket in the future. Vaibhav Suryavanshi will show what he is capable of.” Google CEO Sundar Pichai even posted about the debut player, “Woke up to watch an 8th grader play in the IPL!!!! What a debut!,” the post read. 

Lot is on the ride for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi who imminently has set the bar high to beat his own expectations. Indian Premier League has some for all with the electric game play always lifting the crowd and making way for such young and budding talents, the likes of Ayush Mhatre, Vignesh Puthur and others in this season itself.
