Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC)and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) election is counting votes today. There are 272 candidates fighting for the 58 seats of these two councils. In the KHADC election there were 158 candidates contesting for 29 seats and 114 candidates including 7 women, fought for 29 constituencies in the JHADC.
Multiple counters at the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region will start the vote counting at 8 am today. The SDO office in Amlarem is the three centers of JHADC for 3 constituencies, the deputy commissioner’s office at West Jaintia Hills for 16 constituencies is one of its major centers & 10 constituency counting centers will be under Deputy Commissioner’s Office in East Jaintia Hills. The KHADC have seven counting centers, out of which NSCA Indoor Stadium in Nongpoh for 5 constituencies from Ri-Bhoi, Interstate Bus Terminus Mawiong for 13 constituencies.

Representatives from NPP, UDP, Congress, VPP, HSPDP, BJP and KHNAM from other political parties are hopeful for new executive committees at both councils. Voter turnout of both JHADC and KHADC was at over 85.58% and 76.77% respectively with 1.3 million voters who chose the candidates. In KHADC, The highest voter turnout was in Sohiong constituency with 86.06%, while Jirang recorded the lowest voter turnout at 51.46%.
