UAE Foreign Trade Reaches $1.42 Trillion in 2024, Ascending from $952.9 Billion in 2021

UAE continues to reap the fruits of their strategic trade policies as the country has just seen a steep spike in Trade in 2024 with a cumulation of $1.42 Trillion (AED 5.23 Trillion).

While the whole world is currently ignited by ‘Trade Tariff’, the United Arab Emirates has now recorded a Total Foreign Trade of $1.42 Trillion, 2024, a 49% increase from 2021 where the foreign trade was $952.9 Billion. The report is as per the data from The World Trade Organisation’s ‘World Trade Outlook and Statistics Report’ of 2024. 

The United Arab Emirates growth and achievement in foreign trade is a reflection of strategic vision and resilience, placing it as one of the leading countries of trade and commerce in the Middle East and African Region. As a part of the Top 20 World Trade Nations, the UAE is positioned 11th in Global Merchandise Exports and 13th in the Services Exports. 

The growing and progressive hub of the Middle East market, the United Arab Emirates also focuses on technology and innovation as the country is ranked 21 in Global Digital Services Exports. Services exports sum up to AED 646.6 billion, with digital services accounting for AED 191 billion.

A holistic development entirely, Merchandise exports totaled to a hefty AED 2.22 Trillion, a huge contribution to the Middle East’s trade. UAE also recorded a superfluous trade in 2024 summing up to $134 billion (AED 492.3 billion). 

“In a world of economic and trade challenges, the UAE has prioritised openness, connectivity, and the free flow of trade, capital, and people, establishing itself as a vital link between East and West and a global economic centre”, said His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.

The United Arab Emirates in the face of uncertain global trade and tariff, has adapted and stays resilient in its core policies, also reinforcing trade trends. Main trade focus include Digital trade, Infrastructure, Merchandise and Connectivity that made it outpace the ever growing tariffs and economic uncertainties. The nation’s total digital trade records to AED 345 Billion, with digital services imports at AED 154 Billion, cementing the UAE’s standing as a tech-forward country.

A breakdown in each sector and their contribution to the total trade is topped by services accounting to 26.4 percent of global trade. The growth in trade encompasses various sectors, including information, tourism, and financial service.
