Here is everything you need to know about the largest sacred and historic religious gathering in the world, Maha Kumbh Mela 2025.
Locations of Kumbh Mela
Kumbh Mela is a religious event celebrated four times over a 12-year cycle. You will be amazed to note that the event is organized at four important locations in India such as Haridwar (Uttarakhand), Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh), Nashik (Maharashtra), and Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh).
Every celebration is influenced by certain astrological alignments of the Sun, Moon, and Jupiter. These positions reflect the auspicious times, thus combining astronomy, astrology, spirituality, and rituals. So, Kumbh Mela is a mix of knowledge and tradition that makes the celebration deeply personal and important.
In 2025, Maha Kumbh Mela is held at Prayagraj, the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the invisible Sarasvati river.
Significance of Kumbh Mela
Do you know that the Kumbh Mela has its origins in ancient Hindu scriptures such as the Mahabharata and the Puranas? Yes, the event takes us back to the times when the churning of the ocean i.e. Samudra Manthan occurred. During that time, drops of the nectar of immortality fell at four sacred locations. And that formed the basis of Kumbh Mela’s divine connection with the mythology. Kumbh Mela went on to become a deeply spiritual event where devotees participate to get rid of their sins and attain Moksha.
