The 17th edition of the Asia Cup is expected to be held in September 2025, most probably at a neutral venue. In consideration of the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has decided to organize the tournament in the T20 format.
Most likely, the tournament would be held between the second and the fourth weeks of September. The number of matches to be played would be 19.

Originally, India was to host the tournament. However in light of strained relations between India and Pakistan, the ACC is considering Sri Lanka and the UAE as potential neutral venues as per the report by Cricbuzz. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would remain the official host of the tournament despite the expected shift in venues. UAE has emerged as a front runner to host all 19 matches.

The tournament will span eight teams including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, UAE, Oman and Hong Kong. Nepal, the participant from the 2023 edition failed to make the cut this time. The format features two groups where the top two teams will advance to the Super Four phase before the final.
India the reigning champions will be hoping to defend the title and Pakistan is targeting retribution after their disappointing 2025 ICC Champions Trophy campaign.
