UAE and India’s Strong Ties From Celebrating Diwali to Billion-Dollar Investments

In broad strokes, celebration of Indian culture in the UAE, acknowledgment of the role of the Indian expatriate community and the furthering of economic ties show that the relationship is rooted in mutual respect.

The United Arab Emirates has long represented a cultural mosaic as evidenced by the culturally rich celebrations of Indian festivals such as Diwali. 

The UAE joined the Indian community to celebrate the Festival of Lights through a spectacular event in Dubai where guests like Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Sunjay Sudhir who is an India’s ambassador to the UAE in November 2024. It boosted the spirit of the commitment made by the UAE in strengthening interfaith harmony and multilateral cultural exchanges.

Indian Success Stories:

The UAE’s latest recognition of the Indian community comes with the recent announcement of a street named after an Indian origin doctor who dedicated 60 years of his life to advancing healthcare in the region. This gesture not only honors individual merit but also symbolizes the enduring ties between the two nations. 

Also the success stories of Indian tycoons in the UAE are further testimony to the auspicious economic relationship. Dr. Rizwan Sajan, the founder and chairman of the Danube Group is an experience wherein a small trading firm established in 1993 grew into a conglomerate with annual sales of around $2 billion. This man took the opportunities offered by the UAE to spirited individuals who seek to conquer the world. He became a wealthy leading businessman in Dubai from a very modest beginning in Mumbai.

India-UAE Bilateral Relationship: 

UAE-India economic cooperation reached a new level when the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) was signed in February 2022. This privilege of an agreement has increased bilateral trade considerably with total trade doubling from $43.3 billion in FY 2020-21 to $83.7 billion in 2023-24. CEPA has permitted greater opportunities for businesses to access markets and assured strong economic growth for both nations.
