Apple Might Have Quietly Ditched AR Glass Project Over Performance Issues

Apple has been developing augmented reality powered glasses. However in a surprising development, the company appears to have abandoned its plan to create smart glasses. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg broke the story in his most recent newsletter stating that Apple has cancelled the project due to performance concerns.

Apple’s AR glass, codenamed N107 was said to look like regular glasses have an integrated display and be compatible with iPhones. Although it appears that neither the Mac nor the iPhone chip sets were strong enough, the tech giant had also thought about allowing consumers to link the AR glass to a Mac.

The N107 had sophisticated projectors that showed data, pictures and videos in each eye. The lenses could alter the colour based on the user’s actions.

Meta will probably continue to lead the market this year as Apple has now backed off from its AR glass initiative. However when Samsung releases its Android powered XR headset with a Qualcomm chip set in the upcoming months, the Zuckerberg owned company might encounter difficulties.
