First Ambidextrous Bowler and Wicket in the History of IPL

This IPL 2025 breaks and continues long term records by both the individuals and the team.

The 26 year old Sri Lankan all-rounder, Kamindu Mendis etches history in the Tata IPL 2025 edition during the 15th group stage match between KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) and SRH (Sunrisers Hyderabad). Kamindu Mendis becomes the first player in the IPL history to use one of the distinct techniques of cricket ‘ambidextrous bowling’.

What is Ambidextrous Bowling?

In this type of bowling a player would bowl by both left-arm spin and right-arm off-spin within the same over. 

Kamindu Mendis: A Trendsetting All-Rounder

On 3 April 2025, two deeply wounded powerpact teams of IPL, SRH & KKR went through the face off for a commendable victory to help themselves go higher on the points table. During this exciting match, the SRH all-rounder Kamindu Mendis who came to bowl at 13th over and surprised the fans with his remarkable skill ambidextrous bowling and gave a breakthrough for his team by taking the wicket of Raghuvanshi who was smashing the balls to boundaries and sixes.

With this fall of wicket he became the first player to play as an ambidextrous bowler and taking wicket during his spell in his debut match.
