Who is Tanveer Sangha? Indian Origin Australian Leg-Spinner Playing Against India Today

On March 4th, today the Dubai International Cricket Stadium is witnessing Team India battling it out against Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Both teams have been blessed with a plethora of world-class players but the name that seems to have caught Indian fans attention is ‘Tanveer Sangha.’ Many opine on why such an Indian origin named player should be on the Australian team in such an important encounter.

Who is Tanveer Sangha?

Tanveer Sangha is a 23 year old Australian leg-spinner who was born and raised in Sydney. Tanveer was a natural athlete throughout his school years and shone in several sports before deciding to turn his talents to cricket.

The only reason he could not play fast bowling was his lack of height or pace. So, he decided to turn his skills to leg-spin. His meteoric rise saw him representing Australia at the U16 and U19 levels before making it into domestic cricket with the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League.

Impressive performances soon led to a state contract with New South Wales and inclusion in Australia’s senior team.
